Siemens Satellite Event at the International Conference on
Newborn Hearing Screening, Diagnosis & Intervention
Hearing Aid Fitting in babies: practical demonstration of Infant Hearing Instrument Fitting
with PRISMA 2 K - the first hearing instrument for babies by Siemens
Thanks to the worldwide efforts of experts involved in pediatric audiology, the universal newborn hearing
screening has been initiated in many countries. One of the most important challenges of hearing instrument
fitting in infants is the fact that the ears are very tiny and any normal hearing instrument is too big for
the babies. This leads to instability of the hearing instrument, feedback and also to anatomical changes
of the pinna. As hearing impairment in infants can now be detected at a very early age, the need for a
small hearing instrument specifically designed for the needs of newborns motivated Siemens to develop Prisma 2 K.
In a Satellite event, we would like to give professionals a practical demonstration on fitting hearing instruments
on very young infants along with general practical tips on this issue. There will be international experts
with whom to exchange experiences and ideas. Altogether we want to provide more information on this topic
and to give more security to those who start fitting hearing instruments to infants. It will also be an opportunity
of knowledge-sharing with and between experts.
With early intervention, experts can achieve a lot of success in helping hearing impaired children and their
parents. Due to the plasticity of the brain, the changes a hearing instrument can bring about are unique
in the field of audiology. This possibility motivates us to provide the necessary technology. The first
reactions of pediatric audiologists to Prisma 2 K show, that now
specialists tend to fit infants in an even earlier stage.
