Inside the scanner a special colour-banded light source is projected across the impression. A digital camera then captures multiple images of the impressions from many different positions and angles. These digital images are then combined together to create a 3D 'point cloud'. In just minutes you see the perfectly reconstructed 3D data on the screen.
